I was told that my hair would start to fall out 17 days after the first chemo. That puts it around March 28. I decided to get my hair cut after work today, to get ready. I’ve had long hair most of my adult life, long hair has been part of my identity, so this will be a big change for me – to go through the loss of my hair.
I had a local hair salon – the one I use for trims – cut it short. Maribel’s Great Cuts. I Really like this salon, been going there for several years. Maribel is the owner, and her Mother and Sister, Nancy, work with her. Nancy usually cuts my hair, as she understands that – despite my age – I prefer long hair, and she treats me accordingly.
I went with Christine & Rob – they took pictures…
So… it was done. A shoulder-length “bob”. I’m not quite sure how I like it, it’s a bit too “helmet head” for my taste. Might need to have it touched up a little…
I always thought simply cutting my hair short would be a big shock, but now the prospect of loosing it entirely looms ahead. I hope it’s not too difficult to accept.
Not like I have a choice though…
