UPDATE #5: Its Your Health Radio Interview

I’ve been so excited about the radio interview I did yesterday on “Its Your Health” radio. I know that it was rescheduled several times, so the actual occurrence kinda “got away” from some people. I’ve been excited cuz Lisa Davis said that she would be sending me an mpg of the interview asap, but then I got an email from her which informed me of More technical difficulties! I Swear, I have Crummy Luck ~sigh~

“Hi Denise,
Thanks again for an awesome interview. For some reason when the show was taped, my voice wasn’t recorded! I am going to have to fill in the questions and edit them in! I will do this over the weekend. What is up with all of the technical problems!! Oh well. Thanks for your patience. I will find us another date for a second interview as soon as I can. Best, Lisa ”

She is Thanking ME?? Wow.

Thank YOU, Lisa Davis!!

Thank You…

Bath Water

Time to shake this depression off of me like a dog shakes off its bath water.

Ok, I had a good cry
a Very Good Cry
felt sorry for myself
got mad
got mad at this cancer
got mad at Mr. Sack
got mad at my Folks
got mad at myself.

I can do that
I am allowed to do that.

Now, it’s
Time to
Stop the whining
Stop the public wailing.

I need to look back
and be
Grateful for the
Blessings I received.

I am Thankful for the Holiday cards people sent me. I loved opening each one. Anticipating the greetings, the decor of the cards, if anything would be enclosed – a note, a personal newsletter, photos, a memento.
Thank you.

My Mom & Dad paid to have the leak in the roof of the Hyundai fixed. That is a Huge stress off of me, but am sad at the “waste” of this large amount of money.
Thank You.

My Dear Friend, Crystal, gave me a loaf of the BEST Banana Bread I think I have Ever had! I Tried to ration it out, but it was too good. It is gone.
Thank You.

My Dear Friend, Christy, gave me some Spiced Pecans and Oreo Candy Cane Bark. Since I am not supposed to eat sugar, I am being very careful in rationing this out – but what I have had so far is Very Yummy!
Thank You.

My Dear Friend, Donna, made me a Beautiful name tag to wear at my social events. It is beaded and has fringe and is just LOVELY!
Thank You.

My Dear Friend, Grace, took me to dinner where we laughed and cried and laughed and drank too many margaritas.
Thank You.

My Friend, Josie, gave me a Lovely plaque inscribed with a quote attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt; “A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water”. This is very inspirational.
Thank You.

My Dear (Old-time) Friend, Marianne, sent me an AWESOME handmade Christmas stocking. Made of Funky Wild Pink Paisley patterned fabric with “Girl Friend” beads and decor and white faux fur and pom-pom trim, and filled with fun and useful items. It was So Much Fun to unwrap!
Thank You.

In lieu of gifts, I received some Unbelievable donations for the Holidays. I was several people’s “Charity of Choice”. While I do not relish this title, I am Extremely Grateful to be gifted in such a manner.
* Cherie’ & Billy
* Marianne & Jim
* Patti
* Katherine & Family
* Margot
* Cindy & Family
* Christy & Bill
* Niver Family
Thank You is not, and will never be, enough.

My (Old-time) Friend, Cherie’ & Hubby, Billy, made me their “Charity of Choice” in their annual Charity Exchange with their Friends. I received (an additional) 5 generous donations due to their gracious act of kindness.
Again, Thank You is not enough.

So… while I will always mourn the loss of the life that was planned with Mr. Sack and what I gave up “for him”, for everything we had talked of, for everything we had planned, for everything we had promised… for the 35+ years that I believed him to be the epitome of a man and held him up to compare all others to (which they were never able to measure up), for the lies he told and the shallow judgment he made, for him “dumping” me one month after my diagnosis – for now, there is enough whining about what was lost and be Grateful for what I have.

Shake off the Bath Water.
The dampness will dry out in time…

I am Truly Grateful.
Thank You.
Thank you for thinking of me.

Sheryl – Kingwood Underground

Several years ago, I attended a Bunco event and met some nice ladies. For those who don’t know, Bunco is a dice game which has recently gained some popularity, especially among women in the suburbs – as a social networking outlet.

Well, my interest in Bunco was short cuz I prefer games with more strategy involved, but I did manage to maintain a - mostly online – friendship with a gal named Sheryl. I even went to her home once, as she was/is on eBay Power Seller and I was wanting to get into selling on eBay. I Got A LOT of information from her class – was Well worth it!

Anyway… On Saturday morning, Sheryl helped to “get the word out” and posted a very nice message about my situation on a local community web site, Kingwood Underground

Thanks Sheryl!

The Honorable Profession of Nursing

I know there’s a lot of emotion on this blog, and I bitch about what I am going through, but one thing I want to be Perfectly Clear on – I am Grateful For Every “Break” Which I Am Afforded.  Truly.Truly.Grateful.

And, despite the cavalier and bourgeois attitude of some Doctors I have dealt with (but NOT my Most Awesome PCP – Dr. Ronald Taylor), one Major thing that I am Eternally Grateful for is the Empathy and Gracious Care that I have been given by the Nurses and Nursing Staff, of all levels, who have attended to me.

I have been Truly Blessed to be in the care of these “Unsung Heroes”.

These women and men have treated me with Respect, Dignity and Genuine Caring which has made this Difficult journey So Much Easier.  Without them, my path would be Much Harder.  Much.Much.Harder.

To All the Nurses who have not only done their jobs by attending to me, but who have opened their hearts to my situation, I send my Utmost Gratitude, Sincere Appreciation and Heartfelt THANKS!!

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser Event – May 16 2009

The Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser is today.  John has asked each volunteer to bring a dessert, and I am making a Tres Leches cake.  I cooked it last night and got the first soaking done.  Today will be the second soaking.  Then the topping – I use a marshmallow topping with chopped dried tropical fruits…

I am also bring garlic heads to roast.  I Love roasted garlic!

I hope this event goes well… I’m excited and nervous at the same time.

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser Event – May 16 2009

The Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser is tomorrow…

Some of the “Team” met at the church after work today to chop onions and make pesto. John’s recipe is very simple, but Yummy.  Fresh basil, olive oil, fresh garlic, Asiago cheese and walnuts.

Things were done quickly, and we didn’t stay long.

I’m excited about tomorrow, and still find it difficult to comprehend that my co-workers are doing this for me!

RECAP: Spring 2009 Plant Swap

Today was the Spring 2009 PlantMeet Plant Swap, held at Mercer Arboretum (North Houston area).  This event is a semi-annual gathering of “Planty People” who get together to swap plants, cuttings, seeds and general gardening items. The group which hosts this event is PlantMeet.com – Jennifer, Nadine and the PlantMeet group do a Fabulous job of organizing and pulling it all together.  There are also a couple of other groups that participate – Houston Plant Exchange (my plant group) and GardenWeb.  Actually, I believe that ANY person / plant group is invited to participate, it’s just about getting the word out.

Planty People are very a very unique and generous group, and I truly enjoy attending these events.

I always say that I’m not going to come home with a bunch of plants – I have too many as it is – but Somehow, I always manage to forget and bring home way too many. Not this time though.  This time Mom and I  “only” returned home with about 10!

What WAS a Huge and Very Emotional surprise though, was a gift from my Planty Friends, Beci and Noreen (Noreen of Gingers of Texas)… they planned a raffle in my name, to benefit my treatment / recovery.  Noreen donated a potted Mandarin Satsuma Tree and Beci ran the raffle.  Tickets were a donation of $1 each, and the end total was $205.05 (the extra 5cents came from 2 young girls who each brought a handful of change to donate – Very Sweet and Cute!).

One gentleman placed a $100 bill in the bowl and didn’t even want a ticket!  I was SO touched, I just hugged him and cried.  Turned out that his wife is battling cervical cancer.

Imagine that – his wife has her own battle, and these people reached out to me in my time of need.

I’m crying all over again, right now…

Much Thanks All Around!

May 09 2009 - Plant Swap

This was a Plant Swap of several participating Houston and South Texas area plant groups. Two of my Friends in Houston Plant Exchange raffled off a Mandarin Satsuma Tree as a benefit for me!
