Rotten Eggs and Poisoned Apples for Halloween – Yum!

Have another Halloween Party to go to this evening – Friends from work. This time no accident on the way home from work yesterday, so I had time to get things together – I’m making my “traditional” dish of “Rotten Eggs”! Similar to “deviled eggs” but a bit different and with my “secret recipe”! And Super Yummy!

Eggs boiled and peeled, looking very yucky!

I thought the (plastic) roaches were a nice touch for Halloween! *LOL*

I also made “Poisoned Apples with Pus Dip” – again, “Halloween gross” but Very Yummy!!

A Hug Won’t Fix It, But It Sure Can Help.

I’m on my way back to the office from going to the AllState adjustor to get the cost of having my driver side mirror replaced, when I’m stopping at a stoplight…

Thunk…

Something falls onto my foot from under the dashboard.

Uh oh.  This can’t be good.

It’s a screw.

Nice shiny brassy screw.

Still not feeling that this can be anything good.

So I put the Explorer into “park”, bend down, get the screw, and as I’m looking at it,

I heard a horn blaring

and then…

!BAM!

I feel impact to the rear of my vehicle.

Crap.

So I get out and – sure enough – there’s a little white truck up against my rear bumper.

This time the other driver was very nice.  Nice young man.  Conversation was very cordial and civil, no yelling, no screaming and No Cussing.  MUCH different from “Screeching Woman” from the accident last Friday.

I kinda look at him and ask “Why’d you hit me?”

He gets out, looks at me… “Ma’am, You hit Me.”

“No… I believe that You hit Me.”

“No Ma’am, you were going in reverse, you backed into me.”

“I was in park.”

“No Ma’am, your reverse lights are on.”

Well… yes they are.  Hmmmm….

So we look at my dashboard – sure enough, it indicates that I’m in “park”.  I put it into drive, go forward, put it back into “park”… and my Explorer starts moving in reverse.

Crap.

Can’t get it into “park”.

I’m wonding if the nice shiny brassy screw has anything to do with this.

I’m betting it does.

We determine that everyone is ok, my Explorer has a little damage, but I’m not gonna worry about it; same with his truck, so we go our ways.

I drive straight to my mechanic, been going there for about 10 years, bought the Explorer from them back in 2002.  I trust them, plus they know what I am going through.

It takes about 2 seconds for them to figure out that the nice shiny brassy screw is the screw for the shift linkage.

No screw, no shifting.  Dang lucky I could get it into drive actually.

Shift Linkage:  the rods, levers, etc. used to transmit motion of the shift lever into movement of the gears in a gearbox.

Took about 10 minutes to fix.  No charge.

LMC Automotive = Best.Mechanic.Ever.

I cried while I was waiting and a nice lady who was waiting for her own vehicle came over and gave me a long hug.  She had no idea what I am going through, she just knew I needed a hug.

Yes, I did.

Thank You.

Help for a friend- Lone*Star Speed Zone

A Gentleman who I went to high school with (just a Few years ago) recently reconnected with me via Facebook. His daughter battled lymphoma in 2001 – she became a Warrior during her freshman year of college. Jeff, his wife and their 2 sons were right by her side as she battled and won! She is now happily married with 2 beautiful sons of her own.  What a True Blessing for their family!

Jeff found me via mutual FB Friends, and felt empathy for my situation. He has emailed me kind words of encouragement and prayers.

To help get my story “out there”, Jeff surprised me by posting my story on a forum that he is active on – Lone*Star Speed Zone. It is titled “Help for a friend, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month“.  I am very touched by this kind gesture.

Yes, boardgames are my passion, but my Dad is a “Gearhead” (eh – in high school, I believe we called it “motorhead”) and I was raised with horsepower under the hood – and Loved it!

Lone Star Speed Zone

Thanks, Jeff!!

Gamer Geek Blog Reader

So how Totally Cool is it to run into someone who has been reading your blog?  Someone that you don’t know…  Not Family, not Friend - a stranger who is reading!

This happened to me yesterday, at the Infusion Center, while getting my port-a-cath checked out.

I was waiting, and a Gal and (who I presumed was) her Hubby come in.  Turns out that Mrs. Gal is also a breast cancer Warrior.

Unwilling members of the club we are.

We talk a bit, the 3 of us.  About our treatments, about chemo, about my choice of Burzynski, about Sodium Phenylbutrate (aka PB).  Mrs. Gal is on PB for an unrelated medical condition – she takes 40 tabs per day when needed.  FOURTY TABS!  OMG! The 24 I take daily beat me down, just Beat.Me.Right.Down. I Can’t Even Imagine 40!  Maybe it doesn’t affect her like it does me… Maybe its different cuz of the different medical necessity? Or maybe she is in a whole heckuvalotta more than I am…

We continued to talk.  I got the impression she would have preferred not to, but she was unfortunate to be sitting close to me and I reach out to everyone.

My Bad Habit for those who are not so chatty.

 Anyway…

Maybe the nurse saw something and wanted to “rescue” Mrs. Gal , or maybe she didn’t like us talking about unconventional treatments, maybe it was something else entirely.  The nurse decides to place me in a “private room” for my port access.  Before I leave, I give my email to Hubby and tell Mrs. Gal that I am doing so, so that we can keep in touch.  Please keep in touch.

All goes well and as I am leaving

Mrs. Gal and Hubby are also leaving.

Hubby tells me that he has been reading about me.
Huh?

Yes, reading about me since June, but didn’t recognize me cuz my hair has been growing back.
Since June?
Huh?

Yes, he had read my Geeklist posting on BoardgameGeek (cuz boardgaming is my “passion”).

Wow – how Awesome!  I felt A Mile High on That one!

And they left.  I think her name was Elizabeth, but I didn’t ask his.  Wish I knew.

Y’all out there?

Chemo Port Update (from accident)

Got my chemo port (aka port-a cath) checked this afternoon – everything looks good, despite the mashing from the seatbelt.

No inflammation, no swelling, no major bruising, no serious pain – just tenderness.

And…

Nice Blood Draw.

(ugh)

but hey… at least this news is good  :-)

Pink Rig – Rogue Pressure Services

Now THIS is about not only Talking the Talk, but WALKING THE WALK!

Rogue Pressure Services Unveils First ‘Pink Rig’ in the Gas and Oil Industry

“A Colorado-based company has built the Pink Rig, a hydraulic workover unit with snubbing capabilities that is literally painted pink. Rogue Pressure Services is using the unusual color scheme in the gas and oil industry to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

Rogue has partnered with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation(R) and will donate 1 percent of revenue generated by use of the Pink Rig annually to the Foundation. The project has been dubbed Rigging Up Against Breast Cancer by Rogue employees and management.

Rogue says the uniquely colored rig is not a gimmick but instead a clear statement of its pledge to support breast cancer research and awareness.

“We are committed to championing the fight against this deadly disease,” said Barry Peterson, co-owner of Rogue Pressure Services. “As a company, we wanted to find a way to give back; the more we spoke to our employees the more we realized that breast cancer is a cause that our company as a whole wants to fight. Almost everyone in our organization has been affected in one way or another by breast cancer.”"

WAY TO GO ROGUE PRESSURE SERVICES!!

BOARDGAMING: October 2009 Party

I belong to a couple of social-oriented boardgame groups that meet monthly. Yesterday was the October Event, and since it’s October, the theme was – traditionally – Halloween!  Costumes and all! I LOVED IT!!

It was a “small” gathering, but Much Fun none-the-less! We had some Really cute costumes, however “medical” seemed to be the theme of the evening, with two Drs, one nurse and one patient! There was also a pair of Zombies (a bride and a groom) that had been run over by a car (with Tire Marks on their clothes!!), a Construction Worker, A Lobster, a Renaissance Wench, The Count from Sesame Street (who Continuously Counted *LOL*) and the Cat In The Hat – some Really CUTE costumes!  I found a cool T-Shirt at WalMart that depicted a version of the face from Munch’s “The Scream“.  It was orange and black - I wore it with purple stirrup pants and orange and black stripped socks… I also found some large black earrings that were shaped like the mouth of The Scream… Considering my current situation, I thought it was very appropriate  *LOL*

The Host & Hostess Zombies (Rob & Christine)

Bride & Groom Zombies, having been run over by a car!

Bride & Groom Zombies, having been run over by a car!

There was Lots of fun and ~~Spoooookey~~ foods too – Gorey Intestine Spaghetti, Roasted Witches Fingers, Putrid Pumpkin Pie with Bloody Mess topping, Graveyard Gore in Flayed Flesh cups, Gangrene pockets, Poisoned Apples with Pus dip, Ghastly Grins, Graveyard brownies, Kitty Litter cake, and assorted Spirits and Libations! Everything was Awesome! I hope I remembered everything!

Spending time and playing games with Friends allows me to “forget” about my situation, and enjoy some time just relaxing. It was Really Nice.

There were some ”light”  (Party) games played, and there were some “heavier” ones played too…

GAMES PLAYED
* 13 Dead End Drive
* 6 Nimmt
* Can’t Stop
* Dominion
* Guesstures
* Five Crowns
* Stone Age
* Werewolf

I love boardgaming… and – in this case – a glass (or two) of Halloween Grog! Yes indeed :-)

Was GREAT to spend some Quality time with Good Friends!!

Personal Business

I know this blog is supposed to be for my cancer-related info, but (Thankfully) my life is more than just cancer-related and sometimes I need to write about / vent about other things.

I used to have another blog, but I stopped writing there when things changed.

So I hope no one minds that I write here…

In Good Hands?

The only action I’m getting from AllState is the “middle finger”.

After all the “Don’t Worry – we are here for you!” I got from the AllState Customer Service Rep last night, when I went to Enterprise this morning to rent the car, it was Suddenly “we do not accept liabililty” and there was no coverage.

Ok, I can understand not covering any expenses until an investigation is completed – I Don’t have a problem with that.  But WHY all the “we are here for you”, “we will cover this” from last night?  The AllState Rep was the one who told me that my vehicle was not driveable with the mirror being damaged and that I should rent a vehicle and told me that AllState would pay for it!  Heck, I didn’t think of it til she insisted!!

Such comments IMPLY action that AllState is not willing to follow through on.

I wasn’t able to rent a vehicle to get to the hospital before the Infusion Center closed at noon… hope to be able to do so on Monday.

I’m Thinking that the Rep needs a bit of training on company policy…

Just Saying…

Accidently On Purpose

Its not an accident if she did it on purpose…

I had the Worst experience today, on the way home from work.  I’ve been having so much bad luck lately.

A Stupid woman, experienced what I can only consider was a mental shortchange had road rage against me and intentionally clipped my Explorer, because she didn’t like the fact that I was passing her!

I’m writing this all down now so that I don’t forget.  I’ve already talked to her insurance company (AllState) and the rep, Casey, was very nice, but I want to get this info down before I forget details.

We were at a stop light at Greens Road on Imperial Valley, heading (was I believe is) north.  I was behind an H3, in the left lane – not the left turn lane.  the light turned green and we proceeded.  The person in the right lane was turning into the apartments on the corner, so when they turned I moved into the right lane as the H3 was driving slower.

Up ahead of me, there was a car turning right onto Briarwillow Street; the turn was completed before I got up to the street, so I started to accelerate.  About 1,000 feet up the road, Imperial Valley changes from a 4 lane median divided road into a 2 lane road, with the left lane merging into the right – there is a yellow traffic sign which indicates such.  At this point I was accelerating along side of H3  and concluded I would pass it and there would be ample time for the H3 to safely merge into the right lane behind me.  So I continue to accelerate, minding my business, when suddenly I note that The H3 Is Racing Me To The Merge! OMG!!!

At this point I realize that if I don’t react, there is going to be an accident, so I SLAM on my brakes, tensing my body and mashing the seat belt against the  chemo port in my chest.  The H3 cuts in front of me, clipping my driver mirror.  If I had not done something, this person would have caused some Serious damage to my vehicle!!

The H3 drives on, and turns at the next street, which is Richcreast Drive and, to me, acts like it’s going to keep going, but I pull in behind it and am waving to pull over, so it does.  I’m thinking what kind of teenager is driving this vehicle?  No one gets out… Now, the part of town that this the Greenspoint area, which – due to criminal activity happened in is aptly nicknamed “Gunspoint”.  So, I’m Nervous, very nervous.  Still no one gets out.  So I figure I’ll get out slowly and see what happens – Yes, STUPID ME – an overweight, cancer-battling, middle-aged woman with obviously No Common Sense gets out of her vehicle after someone races her to a merge and seems to intentionally clip her vehicle.

As soon I get out and start to walk to the H3, the driver gets out – a thin, middle-aged woman with blonde hair and She Immediately Starts Screaming at me and calling me a B*!!  Telling me that I was trying to pass her on the right and That was Not going to happen!!  She must have called me a B* 6 times and kept harping that I was trying to pass her on the right-hand side – How Dare I Do That!  And I’m yelling back that she is the one who was trying to cut me off and merging unsafely!  Then she was poking her finger in my face!  I was yelling back at her that She Hit Me, to which she screeched that I was a B* and she was going to call 911.  Oh Thank Goodness cuz at This point I Wanted the police out there and Fast – this woman was C~R~AAAA~Z~Y.

So she calls 911 and is telling the 911 Dispatcher that I hit her and gives my vehicle description and license plate info – Like I’m Gonna Run Away!  THEN starts yelling to the 911 Dispatcher that She Is Afraid Of Me Because I Threatened Her!  OMG!!  So I’m yelling that she is the one cussing at me (Of Course, she stops cussing once she has 911 on the phone!).  I never cussed at her once.  It was a yelling match which totally escalated my ever-present headache to near-migraine status.

Me Threaten Her?  Ok, with the meds I am taking, getting in and out of the vehicle takes my breath away for a few moments.  My muscles and joints ache whenever I move.  My headache is constant.  And I’m In A Position To Threaten Someone?  Now That’s A Laugh.  She could push me over with that finger she was poking in my face and I would have been Down for the Count.

I know this, I am Well Aware of my current physical limitations and – because of my suppressed immune system due to the meds – have to be Very careful of any damage to my person.

But she doesn’t know this.

And she goes on and on to the 911 Dispatcher about how afraid she is of me and how threatening I am.

At this point I yell at her to leave me alone and I walk back to my car.

The Woman Is Nuts, there is No Denying.

I’m sitting in my car, reading a magazine, and after a while, a police officer shows up.  I tell him my side of the story, she tells him hers.  Since he is not familiar with the area, he goes and drives the road to see.

Then he comes back, and gives me a copy of the accident info, tells me that I can get a full copy of the report in 10 days.

I cannot describe the feeling that I had when the officer informed me that the other driver was at fault and would be getting the ticket.

The feeling was Justice.

Now, Here’s The Kicker… when H3 pulled away to head off home – she pulled into the neighborhood off of Richcreast Drive!  So, not only was she racing me to the merge, merging both illegally and unsafely, but – at the speed she was going to try and pass me – she Also Would Have had to slow down abruptly to turn onto the first street past the merge – about 250 feet!!  O.M.G!!

Yes, Justice Indeed.
